Due to the combination of conflict, insecurity, economic crisis and a disappointing grain production, the crisis in South Sudan has reached unprecedented. An estimated 9.4 million inhabitants of the total 12.4 million inhabitants urgently need help. As if this is not enough, they are also deeply touched by the disastrous consequences of climate change. Especially in the south of South Sudan, near the border with Uganda, there is far too little water due to persistent drought and agricultural land is unusable. Cordaid supports the population in this extremely vulnerable area.

In the region where Cordaid works, Magwi, 60% of the population did not have access to safe water. Most of them have to walk more than 30 minutes to a safe water source. That is why the water is often removed from a polluted source, which in turn entails serious health risks. Cordaid ensures that clean water comes within reach for many people.
